Week 7- Catapult STEAM project

Hey whanau,

This week the children are learning about how to build catapults.

To know they are successful they will show the following in Reading, Writing and Maths

Reading: the children will be able to visualise what a catapult is through reading the text

Writing: the children will be able to elaborate on their ideas using examples and feelings

Maths: To use arrays to solve our multiplication equations and transfer this skill to our DMIC

Reading work:

This weeks reading you are learning to visualise the text

Learning intention:
  -how to build a catapult
  -trying
To use your mind and visualise what you will be making with the catapult
Successful: How can you show this?

The text
How did you visualise what you are building

Choose another text to read

Learning intention:  To read the text and summarise it in my own words

Successful:  How can I show that I can do this?

The text I read
Summarise the text

Maths work:
Here is your work for maths.  This will help with your DMIC work.

Learning intention:  To use arrays in my maths to solve multiplication work

Successful:  how can you show you are successful?
I will show this by using repeated addition to solve the times table

Our DMIC Followup work
Here you will find the word problem to help you with your DMIC project.

Whakapono 24 is doing a STEM project.  It is to build a roller coaster out of straws.  There are 7 groups and each group needs 21 straws.  How many straws does Mr Savage need to buy for the class?

Show your working out here:

Step 2-you have to make a hole in the box, after that fold the paper in half then again and make sure it is 25.cm also glue the gap that is left so the paper won’t go up and down.

Step 3-get a straw that is 22.5cm and start building.make a tunnel using a cardboard peace and hot glue gun the tunnel onto the side of the straw.use the cotton balls and stretch the cotton ball making it a spider web.

Step 4-end the roller coaster with a foam cup., cut the cumps side in a square and hot glue gun a straw that is 5.6cm gloe it to the side of the door.

Our Reading

Reading work-  Record all your readings you have done for this project

Name:Trevor angell

Learning Intention:finding key information and summarise the text.

I have put the readings I require you to do.  Have you done any more?

What website did I get my information
What was the key information?
Summarise the text in your own words
Videos,what you need straws,
hot glue gun scissors and
cardboard ping pong ball
What you need for your straw roller
coaster first you need straws
so you can make a straw roller coaster
then you need hot glue gun so you
can make the straws stay still
when the ping pong ball is going
down and need to hold the straws down
for 7 seconds you also need scissors
so you can cut the straws in
the right size you really need a piece of
cardboard for the base to finish
it off a ping pong ball so it can go

Week 4

Hello and welcome to Whakapono 24's learning this week

this week in writing we were learning how to explain how to be a champion

Harley had finished his writing

A champion is a person that uses their PRIDE values to our people like if someone needs help go and help them because that means you are using Participation.
Next:  if a person makes a mess of your environment tell him or her to tidy up their mess so the environment so it’s not messy that means your using Respect.

Then: if a person is annoying you that means he or she is making bad choices but if their not annoying you and their doing their work that means their making good choices and it means your using Integrity.

After that: if you need help ask someone if you need help, remember and never give up and it means your using Determination.

Meanwhile: if your hurting other people your hurting their feelings so don’t hurt other people’s feelings and this means Empathy.

Even tally: when there is a problem at your school and it is on morning tea don’t just stand there
Go and tell a duty teacher or a permediater and they will solve the problem.
Later: when there is a new person go and introduce yourself and don’t shy to introduce yourself go and introduce yourself.

Finally: if it’s the end of the do not leave your class or the next day you will see your teacher so don’t leave your class .
